ANANSI’S HISTORYThree early childhood educators committed to establishing a quality Early Childhood Development Center in Taos County founded Anansi Day School in 1993. The school opened with an enrollment of 45 children with grades Preschool – First Grade. Due to community demand, the school expanded to second grade in 1997. |

The Board of Directors of Anansi Day School voted to pursue the
option of closing its doors as a private institution to become
a public charter school at its annual meeting in August, 2000,
and opened its doors as a free and public charter school in August,
2001. While keeping all of the unique aspects of Anansi Day School
intact, Anansi Charter School offers teaching excellence as a publicly
funded, non-discriminatory, lottery-fed school. The Charter includes
Kindergarten through Second Grade, and the pre-school remains Anansi
Day School with a non-profit status.
